Game Mechanics


Player Mechanics

  • Movement – The player can move left and right by pressing ‘A’ and ‘D’ respectively.
  • Run – The player can run by holding ‘Left Shift’.
  • Jump – The player can jump by pressing the spacebar.
  • Interaction – By pressing ‘E’ players can turn on and off switches/levers and interact with story items. The player
  • Crouch – By holding ‘S’ players can crouch which shifts the camera down. This allows the player to see the level environment beneath them.
  • Skill 1: Tail Whip – By using the Left Mouse Button the player can use this skill to remove breakable platforms.
  • Skill 2: Hide – By holding Left Ctrl the player can use this skill to hide for 5 seconds and move around. This skill costs stamina and they will have to wait for their stamina to recover before using the skill again.


NPC Mechanics

All the NPC can patrol certain areas, and when the Player is detected, the NPC will give chase. The NPC will disengage and return to their original patrolling path when:

  1. The Player is out of reach
  2. The Player uses the Hide skill
  3. The Player enters the Shadows
  4. The Player's health reaches zero and the game is over.

  • Bev
  • Michael
  • Eva
  • Papa
  • Mama
  • Butler
  • Maid


Environment

  • Moving Platform - Platforms that move from one spot to another.
  • Doors – Doors block off parts of the level that the player must open to proceed
  • Levers – Levers activate/deactivate moving platforms as well as open/close doors.
  • Shadows - Areas of the level will be darkened, created as a safe place, and help the Player recover health and avoid unwanted attention.
  • Breakable Platform - Platforms that are breakable with the Tail Whip skill.
  • Boxes - Objects placed around the map that can be used to block NPC's vision.
  • Collectable Items - Throughout each level, there are 5 collectible items the Player needs to collect to pass the level.
  • Alter - A drop-off point for the items that the player collected. After all items have been deposited the level ends.
  • Story Items: The player can interact with story items that provide game lore.

 

Lights

  • Normal Lights - This attracts nearby NPCs to chase the Player. While in the light the player is unable to hide.
  • Damaging Lights – This light damages the player while the player is in them.
  • Alternating Lights – These are groups of normal or damaging lights that alternate flickering on and off.
  • Light Switches – The player can turn on/off normal, damaging, and alternating lights.
