The Future of Stay Hidden!
Hey fellow Cultists, Liz here again. This will be our final blog of the semester, so I thought we could reflect on this year as a whole.
Firstly, I want to thank everyone who showed up to Let’s Break Games. It was a great turn out and we got a tonne of amazing feedback to help improve our game. Let’s talk about some of the insights we gained from the event:
What we got out of the event:
- Feedback about the game in general.
- Feedback about mechanics of the levels.
- Feedback about the hiding skill and the tail skill.
- Observed how individuals played the game and their method of going through the stages.
- Instant verbal feedback as well as survey feedback.
- The different types of bugs or issues that appeared during the event which we did not see at all before (E.g camera shake, player stuck on wall, gaps underneath doors etc.)
- Testers struggling with the controls.
- Suggestions from testers.
What we didn’t foresee happening:
- Players rushing through the gameplay.
- Players not reading pop up instructions.
- Players finding it hard to solve puzzles.
- Players not understanding the mechanics.
- We did not provide explicit instructions throughout the game
What needs to be improved?
- Fixing the known bugs and issues with the levels from the testing day.
- Changing the way we do the tutorial text.
- Changing the controls to suit the player's playstyle.
As you can see, we gathered a lot of amazing feedback from this event. We have 12 days left until our end of year student showcase, so until then we will work on fixing as many bugs as possible. We are also going to change a few cosmetic things to make instructions and the breakable platforms clearer!
So, now to the fun part. What’s next for Stay Hidden? The Munchers Studio wants to keep working on the game, we just don't know when. We all graduate at different times and have jobs so we don't know the logistics, but we want to keep improving! We think Stay Hidden has a lot of potential to do well! We want to add in the 4th level we didn't get time to this year. There's also plenty more bugs to fix and things to patch (when is there not). We would love to see Stay Hidden released on Steam. But until then, who knows? I guess you’ll just have to stay tuned!
Thanks for the great year, fellow cultists!
